About Lin Cheung

To help you decide if I am someone you would like to work with I offer a free half hour session as a chance to meet me and find out more about me. In the meantime here are some of the things I think are important about counselling and therapy.

My Approach
I believe in the essential value in all people and that whilst each person and their experience is unique, there is a common core to our humanity that connects us to each other. I think it is important in therapy and counselling to work with people to help them to establish what they want from the process, and it may take considerable time to work out what this is. That is fine, by having achievable goals both of us know what we are working towards.

I see myself as an equal partner in the way we work together and my role is to provide support, feedback and information in a way that can be of benefit to you.

Qualifications and Experience
I am a qualified psychotherapist with the Certificate in Transactional Analysis (CTA). This is a worldwide qualification confered by the European Association of Transactional Analysis (EATA). I have a Master of Science in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy and a Post Graduate Diploma in Transactional Analysis Counselling from Middlesex University. I hold a Level V award in Leadership from the Institute of Leadership and Management and an honours degree from Trent Polytechnic. I am a registered with the UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) which is the governing body for psychotherapy in the UK and maintains a register of qualified psychotherapists.
I am also a member of the Institute of Transactional Analysis and adhere to its code of ethics and professional practice

I have been working in private practice in Chesterfield for over five years. I have provided a staff counselling service at a further education college and worked in a GP's surgery. I have also provided counselling and psychotherapy on a voluntary basis at a charity that supports women who have experienced domestic violence.

I have attended specialist training in couples and group work, working with self injury and Body Psychotherapy. The approach I use is called Transactional Analysis (TA). It is based on a belief that everyone has the ability to learn and change and that individuals are ultimately responsible for their own behaviour, thoughts and feelings. My other area of interest is eco psychology. Eco psychology is about exploring our link to the natural world and the impact of climate change on our lives.

I have worked in business for nearly twenty years managing and leading teams and have trained and taught in adult education. I write articles for publication and deliver seminars and personal development events on a regular basis.
